IT Research Summer Camp

Welcome to the site of the first edition of the IT Research Summer Camp, organized by the School of Computing of the University of Oviedo, in Spain. The program will be held from May 22 to July 29 2017, in the City of Oviedo, capital of the Principality of Asturias.

What is it?

This summer camp is a 10 weeks program oriented to IT BsC students (preferably, in the last academic year) and IT MSc students who wants to enter the world of research in IT areas.

During their time in Oviedo, students will be able to share their experiences with fellow participants and UNIOVI professors, attend seminars, acquire oral and written presentation skills, and learn how to conduct independent research. Students will learn Android programming to collect raw sensor data and apply computer science algorithms and techniques to the data to help people navigate, improve their health, authenticate users, recognize the user activity, analyze walking patterns, etc.

What else?

The program will also offer excellent study abroad activities. Students will take a course on Spanish History and Culture, participate in social and cultural events sponsored by the city of Oviedo, take tours of the city and surrounding places of significant historic importance. There are also planned trips to the Peaks of Europe, Covadonga, part of the Camino de Santiago, etc.

Who can apply?

The number of students taking part in the program is limited to 20. 10 of them will be American students participating in the REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) program organized by the University of South Florida (more information here). The other 10 vacancies are open to IT students of the rest of the world. The program and so all the activities will be run in English.
